Just got this for Christmas, so will save this article for later!

Sound point about the setting. Such a unique location for a horror novel because the Polar night creates a natural locked-room mystery that lasts for months. Your description of the 'shadow of a man' sent a chill down my spine. It’s a rare find.

Could not agree more! This book quickly became my favourite Ghost Story ever written. I also recommend her second Ghost Story Thin Air. Whilst the first two share a very similar atmosphere and style, Paver’s Third Ghost story, Rainforest, released earlier this year takes a detour in setting and time period whilst sharing some of the same tropes that made the first two so fantastic. A more Gothic offering from her called Wakenhyrst is also well worth the read, packed full of tension with an eerie, unsettling backbone. Michelle Paver will go down in history as one of the top writers in the Ghost Story genre.

All those books are already on my list :) I simultaneously can’t wait to read them but also don’t want to rip through them too fast. I did gift her Brother Wolf to some family kids for the Xmas this year too.
